Jamshedpur, April 4: Young Indians (YI) in Jamshedpur has launched a groundbreaking initiative to promote eye health among school children by installing vision charts in schools.

Recognizing the lack of awareness regarding eye health, YI has devised a child-to-child vision screening concept, empowering children and teachers to take charge of vision screening.

Vision charts in three schools

The initiative kicked off with the installation of vision charts in three schools: Jusco School, South Park; RMS School, Khutadih; and Jamshedpur High School, Bistupur. The aim is to have vision charts in 200 schools.

Under this program, students stand at a distance of ten feet from the chart, covering one eye at a time while reading. Those experiencing difficulty are encouraged to undergo further check-ups. Schools will maintain a logbook to ensure students receive proper testing and follow-up.

The project is led by the health vertical of YI Jamshedpur, chaired by Umang Agarwal, with support from Dr Vivek Kedia of Trinetram Eye Hospital, providing professional guidance.

Initiative aims to revolutionize Eye Health awareness and early detection

Umang Agarwal highlighted the crucial role teachers play in identifying children with vision issues, emphasizing that vision is fundamental to learning tasks.

Principal Mili Sinha praised YI’s efforts, expressing confidence that the initiative will enhance eye health awareness and student wellbeing.

This initiative stems from YI’s 2023 eye check-up camps, where many children were found to have undiagnosed vision issues. Dr Vivek Kedia commended the initiative, stating it will revolutionize eye health awareness and early detection.

Present at the inaugural installation were Dr. Vivek Kedia, along with Yi members Umang Agarwal, Ankita Naredi, Neha Agrawal, Mokshita Gautam, Richa Agrawalla, and Sneha Gandhi.
