Daltonganj, August 12: Obscene and sexually explicit graffiti has been found on the walls of a government-run upgraded plus-two high school at Pandeypoora in Latehar town, triggering a police inquiry weeks ahead of Teachers’ Day on September 5.
The graffiti, which reportedly contains obscene and profane content, was noticed by school personnel on Monday after the school reopened following the Sunday closure. Police suspect the incident may have occurred during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
Obscene Graffiti Found on School Walls
Latehar District Superintendent of Education Gautam Kumar Sahu confirmed that obscene graffiti had been found at a couple of places on the school walls.
“Some obnoxious and obscene graffiti have been spotted at a couple of places on the wall of this school,” Sahu said.
He added that necessary instructions had been issued to school personnel to assist the police in identifying those responsible for the incident.
The graffiti has reportedly been marked on the walls of the co-educational institution, which caters to students up to the plus-two level.

Police Begin Inquiry
Latehar SDPO Sandip Kumar Gupta said he had directed the officer-in-charge of Latehar police station, Ashok Paswan, to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.
Paswan said he visited the school early on Tuesday morning, August 11, after being informed about the graffiti.
According to the police officer, school personnel had discovered the graffiti on Monday. However, the school management had not submitted either an oral or written complaint to the local police regarding the incident.
Police are now looking into when and how the graffiti was drawn and attempting to identify those responsible.
Flower Pots and Cement Bench Also Damaged
The incident was not limited to the graffiti, according to police. Paswan reportedly found that some flower pots and a cement bench on the school premises had also been damaged or disturbed.
Police have warned people in the vicinity against entering or engaging in any inappropriate activity on the school premises.
SDPO Gupta said any incident of misconduct or indecency within the school would be dealt with firmly.
School Asked to Remove Obscene Content
Authorities have instructed the school to remove the obscene graffiti from its walls.
Police have also appealed to the school staff and students to maintain decency and decorum on the campus at all times.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Police are also examining whether there was any local dispute or other factor that may have contributed to the incident.
The development comes just weeks before Teachers’ Day, observed on September 5, when schools across the country organise programmes to honour teachers.
