PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, June 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm alert for Jharkhand for the next 72 hours, forecasting lightning, gusty winds and intermittent weather activity across several parts of the state till June 7.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places across Jharkhand from June 4 to June 7.

Thunderstorm Activity Expected to Intensify

The IMD said weather activity on June 5 is likely to affect most parts of the state, excluding some north-western and adjoining central regions. Thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread across Jharkhand on June 6 and June 7.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during lightning and strong wind events.

Multiple Weather Systems Influencing Conditions

Meteorologists attributed the changing weather to a western disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation over West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

A trough extending from this system to north Tamil Nadu through Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana and Rayalaseema, along with another upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Uttar Pradesh, is influencing weather conditions over eastern India, including Jharkhand.

Daltonganj Hottest at 41°C

According to the IMD’s weather report for the past 24 hours, Daltonganj recorded the highest maximum temperature in Jharkhand at 41°C.

Other major temperatures recorded were:

  • Chaibasa: 38.4°C
  • Jamshedpur: 38.1°C
  • Bokaro: 39.5°C
  • Ranchi: 35.7°C

The state’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Namkum in Ranchi at 22°C.

Rainfall Remains Limited

Rainfall activity remained subdued during the last 24 hours, with Pakuria in Pakur district recording the highest rainfall at 2.6 mm.

Weather experts expect the upcoming thunderstorm activity to provide temporary relief from prevailing heat conditions, though people have been advised to stay alert for lightning strikes and strong winds.
