Jamshedpur, Oct 26: Congress candidate from Jamshedpur East assembly constituency and AICC in- charge of Odisha, Ajoy Kumar, has lodged a formal complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner of India against Odisha Governor Raghubar Das for actively participating in the ongoing election campaign in Jharkhand, which is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
The Congress leader alleged Das, also the former chief minister of Jharkhand has actively campaigned for his daughter-in-law in the constituency in Jamshedpur.
The letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner of India written earlier this week alleged that Odisha Governor and former chief minister Raghubar Das has been found campaigning for his daughter-in-law Purnima Das, a candidate from Jamshedpur East constituency, a seat the Odisha governor himself held five times on BJP ticket.

What has Ajoy Kr alleged in the letter to ECI?
Congress candidate Kumar has also shared a copy of the letter written to the Election Commission on social media.
In the letter to the EC, Congress leader Ajoy Kumar alleged that Odisha governor Raghubar Das has been found attending election booth committee meetings in the Jamshedpur East constituency and distributing various materials to the public.
Through the letter, Kumar sought intervention of the Election Commission in this regard. The letter requests the ECI to take urgent steps toward the complaint.
The letter to the EC also refers to the recommendations of the Sarkaria Commission regarding the institution of a Governor and says, “It clearly states that any person to be appointed as a Governor should not be intimately connected with the local politics.”

BJP’s Purnima against Congress’ Ajoy in Jamshedpur East
Notably, Jamshedpur East will go to polls on November 13.
The main fight will be between Purnima Das of the BJP and the Congress candidate Ajoy Kumar, who has been popular for putting a leash on organised crime during his tenure as Jamshedpur Superintendent of Police between 1994 and 1996 in erstwhile Bihar.
In the last assembly polls held in 2019, the then chief minister Raghubar Das lost the Jamshedpur East seat to former BJP leader Saryu Roy who fought as an Independent.
