Dhanbad, Nov 9: A transporter of Bengal identified as Ranjan Maji was caught carrying Rs 3 lakh cash in an Innova car at an inter-state check post under Chirkunda police station, around 40 km away from district headquarters on Saturday.

The officer in charge of Chirkunda police station, Ramji Roy, told media persons that the car was coming to Jharkhand from the Bengal side.  In a routine inspection of vehicles at Jharkhand- Bengal border Rs 3 lakh cash was recovered from the car.

The car rider was identified as Nituria village (Purulia district) resident Ranjan Maji. He claimed that he was a transporter and going to Dhanbad for business purposes. But he failed to give details of carrying cash and its valid paper.

“The cash amount has been handed over to the officials’ team constituted by the district election committee for checking illegal trafficking of cash,” said a police officer.
