Jharkhand Polls: Voting underway in first phase on 43 assembly seats

Ranchi, Nov 13: The voting for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections has begun today at 7 AM across 43 assembly constituencies. Voting is underway in a total of 43 constituencies, including five in Ranchi district.

The fate of 683 candidates in the electoral race will be decided by 13,710,717 voters, including 6,873,455 men, 6,836,959 women, and 303 third-gender voters. Of the 683 candidates, 609 are men, 73 are women, and one belongs to the third gender.

The Election Commission of India reported a voter turnout of 13.04 percent by 9 AM in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has deployed thousands of security personnel to ensure peaceful voting. Additionally, 18,000 GPS-equipped high-tech vehicles are being monitored, along with surveillance through webcasting.

In Ranchi district, voting began at 7 AM across 15,344 booths. Among these, 12,716 are in rural areas and 2,628 in urban areas. Out of the 12,716 rural booths, voting at 950 critical booths will be held from 7 AM to 4 PM.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on X, urged the people of Jharkhand to cast their votes.

“Today is the first round of voting in the Jharkhand assembly elections. I urge all voters to vote with full enthusiasm in this festival of democracy. On this occasion, my heartiest congratulations to all my young friends who are going to vote for the first time! Remember – first vote, then refreshment!”, PM Modi said on X.
