Daltonganj, Nov 29: Polythene and plastic are not only a big hazard to the environment. They take a toll on cattle too.
Cattle consumed polythene
The recent episode of the death of seven cattle including a pregnant cow, all from eating polythene and plastic having either rotten vegetables or food under the Baariyatu block in Latehar district has come as a terrible shock.

Urea in garbage proved fatal
Chourasia said, “I am told by veterinary personnel there that some urea was there in the garbage. The cattle might have consumed it.”
“Urea has enough toxicity. Once in the abdomen, it becomes ammonia and ammonia damages the liver like anything. These poor cattle just became a victim of man’s dirty habit of leaving a heap of dirt with some such leftovers which these poor cattle eat only to die a miserable death,” said Chourasia.
