Daltonganj, Nov 29: The post-monsoon census of the wildlife in the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) is over.

On Thursday, November 30, the last day of the eight-day-long census, is dedicated to bird watching or survey.

Census team came across leopard, bear, baby wolf

The census had interesting moments, Paramjeet Tiwary, a dedicated forest guard said, “We were conducting the census when we heard a leopard, perhaps the leopard was warning us not to venture into its area. The leopard gave its deep guttural sound barely 100 meters away from where the census team was”.

“A sloth bear just passed before our census team. The bear knew we could easily overweigh it otherwise if a bear finds any human alone and in its way, pounces on the human,” he added.

Tiwary said, “We saw a wolf kid. Its mother could have been some distance away. The baby wolf saw our team and ran in one direction perhaps its mother could have been there to be with it.”

Bird surveying tomorrow

Deputy Director, South Division of the Palamu Tiger Reserve, Kumar Ashish said, “The post-monsoon census is almost over. Tomorrow, there is a bird survey. Our teams will spot and identify birds. It’s also a very exciting job in the jungles.”
