Jamshedpur, Feb 24: A rural medical practitioner was shot dead by Naxals in the rebel-infested Tonto Thana area of West Singhbhum on Friday.

The police have recovered the body as well as empty cartridges from the spot on Saturday.

Identified as Jiten Laguri, the victim was a resident of Bandabera village in Tonto and was suspected of having been killed for reportedly being a police informer.

Laguri (45) had gone to Chaibasa on Friday evening and as soon as he returned home late in the night, an armed squad of Naxals swooped over his house and shot him dead after dragging him out of the house.

It appears that the Naxals were following the movement of the rural medical practitioner and executed the killing having followed him closely.

West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed about the killing to be a Naxal-sponsored

“Those who killed Jiten Laguri had dropped papers claiming responsibility for the murder. The police and paramilitary forces that had visited the spot have collected such papers, ” said Ashutosh Shekhar, adding that a search operation for the rebels is on.
