Jamshedpur, Dec 5: Security has been further tightened in the Ghaghidih Central Jail, Jamshedpur after an undertrial gangster, Aman Singh was gunned down by his rival inmates in Dhanbad divisional jail on Sunday.

Following instruction from the Home Department under which all the prisons in the state function, security apparatus are refurbished and the prison guards are tightened up.

Screening system vigilant

As the Ghaghidih Central Jail is considered to be one of the sensitive jails in Jharkhand, the central jail authority prompted to take stricter measures to ensure full safety and security inside the central jail.

The central jail administration is making it sure that the screening system at the jail gate is full-proof and that no objectionable item is smuggled into the jail.

Even the prison employees have also been instructed not to bring their vehicles’ keys inside the jail and instead deposit them at the jail gate when coming to attend duty inside the jail.

Necessary step taken: Superintendent

Ajay Prajapati, superintendent, Ghaghidih Central Jail said the security aspect of the central jail has been further tightened after the shooting incident at Dhanbad divisional jail, resulting in the death of an undertrial prisoner on Sunday.

“We have started taking all necessary steps to ensure that the central jail is a safe place for the inmates here. Security apparatuses like CCTV cameras and metal detectors are refurbished as well as rechecked and prison employees, including the guards have been given special instructions to follow in view of keeping the central jail free from any objectionable item,” said Prajapati while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The superintendent said as of today 1,908 inmates, including undertrial prisoners, are lodged in the central jail against the sanctioned strength of 1,447 inmates.

The Ghaghidih Central jail has several high-profile criminals, as well as Naxals, lodged there.

Shooting incidents in 2009 and 2002

Moreover, the central jail has a precedence of double murder inside the prison in March 2009, one of them being shot while taking a bath.

Further earlier, when the Ghaghidih Central jail had not come into existence and Sakchi divisional jail was functioning at Sakchi, jailer, Uma Shankar Pandey was gunned down near his residence close to the divisional jail in March 2002.
