Jharkhand Sports: Manish wins Chaibasa Padmabai Rungta Chess tournament title

Dhanbad, April 1: Manish Sharma became the new champion of West Singhbhum district by winning the Padmabai Rungta Memorial cash prize chess tournament title concluded at Chaibasa Recreation Hall Town Club.

After the completion of the 7th round, three players, Manish Sharma, Swayan Chakraborty and Rajesh Kumar, got equal six points each.

International arbiter Jayant Bhuyan, who officiated the championship, said that based on Progressive Points, Manish Sharma was declared champion and Swayan Chakraborty runner-up. Rajesh Sinha had to contend with the 3rd position.

Kamal Kishore Debnath (5.5 points), who played a draw with Narendra Nath Pandey in the 7th round, got the 4th position.

Manish Sharma, due to unavoidable reasons, did not play in the 7th round, but despite that, on a progress point basis, he became champion. In the final round, Swayan Chakraborty beat Bisadeep Thakkar, while Rajesh Kumar snatched total points against Ravi Dongo.

Champion Manish got a cash prize of Rs 6,000, while runner-up Swayan got Rs 4,000. Narendra Nath Pandey and Bhupesh Balmuchu earned 5.5 points each and 5th and 6th positions, respectively.

Under-7 boys- Ved Ahujua became champion, Sumant Kashyap runner-up
Under-7 girls- Mera Shah became champion, and Mishika Samad runners up.

Boys under 9: Angad  Karan and Tanmay Biswas became winners and runner-up, respectively.

Boys under-11:  Rishav Kumar Singh became champion, Himanshu Mahto runner-up.
Girls under-11: Aditi became champion, Maa Deepa Biswas runners up.

Boys under-13: Devraj Kumar won, and Srijit Bhoumik runners up.
Girls under-13: Samridhi Priya winner, Peris Munda runner-up.

Under-15 boys– Sridas Pirijiwala winner,  Naman Mishra runners-up
Girls under-15: Nishtha Das became champion, Soumya Prabha Soi runner-up.

Prize ceremony

In the final ceremony, senior police officer Rahul Dev Baraik and senior advocate Niranjan Prasad Saw were the chief guest and guest of honour, respectively. They gave away trophies and cash prizes to successful participants.

WSDCA general secretary Basant Khandelwal welcomed the guests and praised the association’s achievement.

Jayadev Tripathi conducted the function, and Anant Lal Vishwakarma proposed votes of thanks. WSDCA president Mukund Rungta, Sohan Lal Mudra, Sunil Sharma Arpit Khirwal, Harsh Sharma, Puroshottam Shraf, Sunil Rungta, Sushil Chomal, Ramesh Khirwal and Nirmal Chandra Tripathi were also present.
