Jharkhand Sports: Saraikela to host tournament on International Chess Day

Dhanbad, July 16: The Saraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association will organize a prize-money open blitz chess tournament, titled ‘Moves and Flames’, on the occasion of International Chess Day, July 20.

District Chess Association General Secretary Ajay Kumar informed that the tournament will be held at Atal Park in Adityapur. The competition will follow a nine-round blitz format, with each player allotted 3 minutes and an additional 2 seconds per move.

The last date for registration is July 17.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 20 performers, with the winner receiving ₹6,000, the runner-up ₹4,000, and the third-place finisher ₹800. Additionally, trophies will be awarded to winners and runners-up in the under-7, under-9, under-11, under-13, and under-15 categories.

Utsav Ojha has been appointed as the tournament director. The tournament will begin at 2 PM on July 20.

To mark the occasion of International Chess Day, a Mashal Yatra (torchlight procession) will also be held in the evening.
