Dhanbad, Sept 10: The West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) will host the All-India Open FIDE Rating Chess Championship, which boasts a cash prize of Rs 75,000.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at St. Xavier Welfare Centre in Chaibasa from October 15 to 20, with Rungta Steel TMT as the sponsor.

Tournament details and participation

General Secretary of WSDCA, Basant Khandelwal, announced that the event will feature nine rounds and is expected to attract around 200 to 250 FIDE-rated and unrated players from across the country. Last year’s tournament set a record with 179 participants.

“This tournament is beneficial for both rated and non-rated chess players of the state. Non-rated players will get a chance to obtain an international rating while rated players will have the opportunity to improve their rating. So, this tournament is important for Jharkhand players,” said Khandelwal.

Registration and key roles

So far, 20 players have confirmed their participation, with the registration deadline set for October 8. Most top-ranking players from Jharkhand are expected to take part.

International arbiter Vishal Kumar Minz will serve as the chief arbiter, and Purushottam Saraf has been appointed as the tournament coordinator.
