Ranchi, Sept 15: The 54th Junior National Chess Championship (Under-19) and the 39th National Junior Girls Chess Championship will be hosted at Web International, Jamshedpur, from December 16 to 24. Ajay Kumar, secretary of the Saraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association, shared the details on Monday.

A total cash prize pool of ₹10 lakh has been announced for the event. The winners in both categories (under-19 and junior girls) will receive ₹1 lakh each, while the second and third prizes are set at ₹72,000 and ₹60,000 respectively. The top 20 players in both championships will be awarded cash prizes.

Organizing Responsibility

The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has allotted the tournament to the All Jharkhand Chess Association (AJCA), which in turn has assigned the responsibility of organizing the event to the Saraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association.

This marks the second time in two years that Jharkhand will host the junior nationals, with the under-19 event previously held in 2023.

To ensure smooth execution, the district association convened a meeting under its president Manoj Kumar, where several sub-committees were formed. Chief patron Shambhunath Singh and other office bearers were also present during the discussions.

Another vice-president, Shailendra Kumar, has been appointed as the chairman of the reception committee.

Patrons N.K. Singh and Ramanand Prasad have also been entrusted with key responsibilities to ensure the championship is remembered as a landmark event at the national level.
