Ranchi, Dec 21: Transport Minister Deepak Birua has instructed officials in the Transport Department to ensure that the general public faces no unnecessary hurdles in obtaining learner and driving licenses. “Officials should meet with the public daily and resolve their problems promptly,” he emphasized.

The minister gave these directives during a review meeting focused on revenue collection and the overall functioning of the Transport Department.

He stressed the importance of meeting the annual revenue collection target within the next four months. “Officers must take their responsibilities seriously. Those failing to meet their targets will face appropriate action,” he warned.

During the review, Minister Birua noted significant shortcomings in areas such as tax collection, vehicle permits, and registrations. To address this, he directed that all pending work from the past month should be completed without delay. Additionally, he instructed officials to carry out physical inspections of vehicles and expand the setup of check posts to other districts, similar to the one currently operating in Chirkunda, Dhanbad.

The minister emphasized that preventing road accidents requires strict adherence to traffic rules. He ordered the installation of SVD, ANPR, and CCTV cameras across the state to penalize violators and promote road safety.

To tackle road accidents caused by dense fog during the winter and the New Year celebrations, he called for intensive investigation campaigns. He also emphasized the importance of awareness campaigns about wearing helmets and seat belts.

Further, the minister instructed officials to conduct physical inspections of vehicles under the Gram Gaadi Yojana, ensuring they meet passenger movement standards and adopt best practices. He also urged action to achieve 100% of vehicle-related targets under the scheme.

For hit-and-run cases, Minister Birua ordered the timely resolution of applications, as per the Supreme Court’s directions.

The review meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Kripananda Jha, Joint Secretary Sangeeta Lal, Joint Transport Commissioner Praveen Kumar, and other officials.
