Daltonganj, March 21: Bariyatu police in Latehar district nabbed two habitual opium peddlers and seized a little over 2.45kgs of opium.

Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said the two have been identified as Suresh Kumar Yadav, 31 and Sewa Ganjhu, 37. Both hail from the Chatra district.
Police seized the narcotics in strict adherence to the seizure protocols for the NDPS Act.

As the frisking and seizure of the narcotics are to be done in the presence of a magistrate, here in this case CO Bariyatu was present.

Police recovered 593 grams of opium from the possession of Suresh and 1.861 grams from Sewa.
Kumar Gaurav said police seized two bikes also.
These two opium peddlers were en route to Lawalong via Herenhopa from the Labrahi locale under the Bariyatu police station limits.
The two were intercepted at Teetar Mahua Dakadiri jungle by the Bariyatu police.
Gaurav reiterated, “Latehar district police are determined to curb and contain poppy cultivation and its surreptitious shipment. Ours is a sustained drive against opioids. It will go on with the same intensity and vigour.”
The two were remanded to judicial custody late Thursday evening.
