Jamshedpur, Sept 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, warning of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places across the state until September 7.
According to the IMD, a well-marked low-pressure area is currently positioned over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Odisha coast. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, adjoining Jharkhand, and north Chhattisgarh in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Bikaner, Jaipur, Damoh, Pendra Road, Sambalpur, and the centre of the low-pressure system before extending southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
The IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against possible lightning strikes and strong winds.
