PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Aug 28: Light to moderate rain is expected in most places across Jharkhand today.

Ranchi Meteorological Centre also issued an alert of heavy rain in one or two places of north-eastern and south-eastern Jharkhand today.

Statistics revealed that the state’s rain deficit has come down to 9 per cent due to a good spell of rain in the past few days.

Against a normal of 768 mm, the state has so far received 699 mm of rain.

Satellite pictures showed that the low-pressure area over Jharkhand moved west-northwestwards and lay over northwest Jharkhand.

It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand, and north Chhattisgarh and adjoining southeast Uttar Pradesh and weaken gradually during the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through the centre of deep depression over north Gujarat, Sagar, centre of low-pressure area over northwest Jharkhand, Digha and thence southeastwards to East Central Bay of Bengal.

A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over East Central and the adjoining North Bay of Bengal on August 29.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards close to south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent two days.
