PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, July 18: A weak monsoon would result in light rain over Jharkhand during the next 24 hours, said a forecast issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

According to the forecast, the maximum temperature would witness a rise in the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Narsinghpur, Rajnandgaon, Kalingapatnam and thence eastwards to the central Bay of Bengal extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on July 19.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain was observed at several places over the state during the past 24 hours.

Monsoon activity was weak over the state.

Against normal rainfall of 359 mm, the state has so far received 188 mm of rain, thus resulting in such a huge deficit.

The highest rainfall of 29.6 mm was recorded at Dhalbhumgarh (East Singhbhum) during the last 48 hours.

Met department officials were apprehensive of a good spell of rain in most districts across the state next week.
