Team India T-20 coach VVS Laxaman will prepare under -19 women’s team for the Asia Cup.
Excels in Challenge Trophy
Anandita has been selected based on her all-around performance in the Challenge Trophy T-20 cricket tournament held at Jaipur in the last week of October. Playing for India’s ‘C ‘team, she took five wickets and scored 35 runs in three matches. Her best performance in the tournament was three wickets and 18 runs including two massive sixes against India ‘A’.
Though she did not get a proper batting opportunity, she impressed the selectors with both her bowling and batting skills.
Student of former Ranji player
Anandita, daughter of railway engineer Manish Kumar and a resident of Govindpur block in Dhanbad had started playing cricket hardly four years ago. She is a student of former Ranji star and BCCI level -2 coach Chandra Mohan Jha.
Chandra Mohan Jha, who is also a Jharkhand under-16 team coach said that Anandita has the full potential to excel at under -19 and senior women’s teams at the international level provided she maintains her temperament, technique and attitude.
“Since she is an all-rounder and can shine equally from bowl and bat, she could be an asset of the national team,” he said. Appreciation of Chandra Mohan Jha keeps significance as in 1996-97 former Test star San jay Manjrekar in Jamshedpur to play had highly applauded him. Jha played Ranji matches for Bihar and Jharkhand for more than 12 years till 2009.
