THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, Dec 24: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr L Murugan who is on his three-day tour of Palamu beginning December 23 conceded the Nal Jal Yojna is tardy in Jharkhand as the state government started it quite late.

He further agreed there is needed an impetus to be given to this ambitious Nal Jal scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This Nal Jal Yojna is tardy here in Jharkhand unlike southern states where it has made significant strides quite successfully.

Focus on education and dropout rates

Dr Murugan said he reviewed the primary and middle education progress to find out the rate of dropouts and again back to schools where it was discovered more efforts are needed to contain the dropouts. The minister said he has asked for a survey in regard to the dropout.

Dr Murugan had a word of appreciation for the Sakhi Mandals saying there is a good financial inclusion to it worth Rs 3000 crore in Jharkhand.

Governance and sectoral gaps

The Jharkhand Story correspondent asked the minister as to in which sector he on his review found the governance poor and bad.

The minister did at first try to beat about the bush but when pestered for an answer he said the overall governance is 90 per cent while all endeavours ought to be made to achieve 100 per cent. He referred to agriculture where there is a strong need to give a broad push-up.

Addressing Palamu’s drinking water crisis

A lady journalist Khushi Thakur asked the minister that the drinking water crisis gets severe and acute every summer in Palamu where people pine for drops of water to which Dr Murugan said “Your MP has raised this issue. The MP has pointed out issues related to water reservoirs also.”

The lady journalist went on further “This water crisis is like an annual feature here where mitigational measures are either deficient or scanty. People suffer most on account of the terrible crisis of the drinking water.”

Palamu’s Aspirational district status and future plans

The minister was asked when Palamu will be taken off the Aspirational tag to which he said, “When its 49 key performance indicators achieve a 100 per cent saturation.”

He assured the Doordarshan Kendras pan India will be made more and more competitive.

Again there is a lot more to be done in health and agriculture here, he conceded.

Dr L Murugan was accompanied by MP Vishnu Dayal Ram, Commissioner Bal Kishun Munda, DC Shashi Ranjan, DDC Shabbir Ahmad, a host of other officers and the district president of the BJP Amit Tiwary.

Speaking to this correspondent Amit Tiwary said, “The MoS found many gaping holes in key performance indicators here. It ranges from Nal Jal Yojna to primary and middle school education punctuated with health and wellness indicators.”
