Ranchi/Lohardaga, Oct 10: Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA), has taken cognisance of the brutal murder of three family members in Kekrang Bartoli village under Peshrar Police Station, Lohardaga district. The victims were reportedly killed over allegations of witchcraft, sparking outrage across the region.

Immediate Action and Relief Ordered

Following media reports on the incident, Justice Prasad directed the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Lohardaga to take immediate steps to ensure the arrest of the accused and provide relief to the victim’s family.

A judicial team visited the site and handed over a cheque of ₹20,000 as emergency financial aid. The process of offering free legal assistance and compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme has also begun.

Police Directed to Fast-Track Arrests

On Prasad’s instructions, the Principal District Judge of Lohardaga met with Superintendent of Police Sadiq Anwar Rizvi and SDPO Vedant Shankar, directing them to expedite arrests and ensure a swift investigation.

Awareness Campaign Against Witch-Hunting

To combat the root causes of such violence, JHALSA has instructed DLSA Lohardaga to organise legal awareness camps and door-to-door campaigns. These initiatives aim to educate locals on the evils of witch-hunting and the legal consequences of engaging in such acts.

A temporary legal aid centre may also be established in the area to provide ongoing support and guidance.
