Ranchi, July 14: In a significant reshuffle in the Indian judiciary, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan of the Himachal Pradesh High Court has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. He replaces Justice MS Ramchandra Rao, who has been transferred to Tripura as part of a broader reorganisation involving multiple High Courts.
The appointments, officially notified by the Centre today, follow recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium in May this year.
Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, known for his judicial acumen and strong administrative leadership, will now head the Jharkhand High Court at a time of key transitions within the judiciary.

Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, who has been serving as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court since April 17, 2023, is among four Chief Justices transferred to other High Courts. Hailing from Jharkhand, Justice Singh has been shifted to Telangana.

Alongside this, the government also confirmed the elevation of the following judges as Chief Justices of other High Courts:
- Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva (Madhya Pradesh High Court; parent HC: Delhi High Court) as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
- Justice Vibhu Bakhru (Delhi High Court) as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
- Justice Ashutosh Kumar (Patna High Court) as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
- Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi (Patna High Court; parent HC: Gujarat High Court) as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
These appointments mark a significant round of judicial reassignments aimed at strengthening the leadership across several High Courts in the country.
