Ranchi, June 4: Kalpana Soren, the wife of jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, has won the Gandey by-election by a margin of 26483 votes.

Kalpana Soren got 1,08,975 votes while her rival Dilip Verma of the BJP got 82,492 votes.

Her victory is significant as she led the INDI Alliance in Jharkhand in the absence of Hemant Soren and, in a way, proved her claim to lead the JMM In future. The INDI Alliance is set to get 5 out of 14 seats, three up from the 2019 tally.
