Jaipur, July 4: In the aftermath of the BJP’s lackluster showing in the Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan, Kirodi Lal Meena has resigned from his position as a minister in the Rajasthan government.

In the recent elections, Meena (72) declared that he would step down from the Bhajan Lal Sharma government if the BJP failed to secure any of the seven parliamentary seats he oversaw.

The Rajasthan minister for agriculture, rural development, disaster management and relief mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tasked him with overseeing seven seats in eastern Rajasthan, on which he put in significant effort during the elections.

Despite his efforts, the BJP lost some of the seats in the Lok Sabha results announced on June 4, including Meena’s hometown of Dausa. In total, the BJP secured 14 of the state’s 25 seats, a decrease from the 24 seats it won in the 2019 elections.

Kirodi Meena’s aide mentioned that Meena resigned as minister, submitting his resignation to the chief minister 10 days ago.

Meena on Thursday posted the well-known Ramcharitramanas verse “Raghukul reeti sada chali aai, pran jaai par vachan na jaai” on X to highlight his resolute intention to honour his promise.

Meena campaigned for seats in eastern Rajasthan which included Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Alwar, Tonk-Sawaimadhopur and Kota-Bundi.

The BJP failed to win Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, and Tonk-Sawai Madhopur.
