Jamshedpur, Nov 10: Adverse financial condition caused a lady police constable to commit suicide by jumping down from a four-storey residential building in Golmuri on Friday morning.
Due to the fall from the high-rise building, the constable identified as Lalita Kumari, got fatally injured, leading the neighbours to rush her to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared her as brought dead.
According to police, the tragic incident took place on the premises of Golmuri Police Line, triggering shock among the families of fellow cops staying there after the news of the suicidal death of the 45-year-old lady constable.
Lalita Kumari was the only earning member of the family of five – husband-wife and three children.
According to relatives, the children — two sons and a daughter — are school-going and the husband is an alcohol-addicted unemployed man.
“Lalita Kumari would run the family, but as the husband was unemployed, she used to face financial problems and thus was compelled to remain under stress. In the meantime, one of her sons demanded her to buy him an iPhone, causing her to face unbearable tension. Moreover, there was a serious quarrel between husband and wife. Ultimately, she might have taken the drastic step to get rid of the unbearable agony by jumping down from the rooftop of the four-storey building this morning,” said a neighbour while talking to The Jharkhand Story.
DSP (CCR) Animesh Gupta had rushed to the spot at the Golmuri Police Line having got to know about the untimely death of the lady constable.
“It is a case of suicide. We are investigating the exact reason behind the lady constable taking this drastic step, ” he said while talking to the newsmen.
The police have shifted the body to the MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) mortuary for postmortem from the Tata Main Hospital.
