New Delhi, August 12: The Lok Sabha has initiated impeachment proceedings against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court.
Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced the formation of a three-member committee to examine allegations of misconduct against Justice Varma.

He informed the House that he had received a proposal, signed by 146 members including BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and the Leader of the Opposition, seeking Justice Varma’s removal from office.

The Speaker said the proposal met the requirements of the rules and therefore the removal process should be set in motion, so he is constituting the inquiry committee.

The committee will comprise Supreme Court judge Justice Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, and senior advocate of the Karnataka High Court V. B. Acharya.
