THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Dec 14: Eight security personnel have been suspended by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in response to the severe security breach that took place in Parliament on Wednesday. The incident involved two people jumping into the Lower House from the visitors’ gallery and setting off yellow smoke canisters.

A significant security failure resulted in a group of trespassers entering the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour session. One individual was observed jumping over the benches, while another hung from the visitors’ gallery. Both inside and outside the Parliament buildings, the protesters disrupted the session by turning on coloured smoke canisters and using sloganeering.

When the incident happened, personnel were positioned at crucial entry points, such as the Parliament House entry area and the entry gate. The Security Staff members’ suspension is the first major move the Secretariat has made in response to the security breach.

Five accused arrested, case filed

Following their overpowering by MPs and security guards, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, who had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber, were turned over to police. Meanwhile, two more persons, Amol Shinde and Neelam, who were involved in protesting outside the Parliament building, were taken into custody.

In the aftermath of the security breach, police have detained five individuals, with a sixth suspect currently evading capture. The Home Ministry has launched a thorough investigation into the incident, assigning the chief of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to oversee the probe at a high level.

In response to Wednesday’s incident, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla stated he would write to the Home Ministry asking for a review of Parliament’s security. Since Pratap Simha, a BJP MP, approved the visitation pass given to one of the intruders, opposition politicians have called for action against him.

A case has been filed under the severe Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), among other sections, including trespass, criminal conspiracy, obstruction, and provocation with the aim of inciting a riot.
