Jamshedpur, Nov 28: Loyola School, Jamshedpur, celebrated its 75th Annual Sports Day at the CNR Ground. The event reflected the school’s legacy of nurturing character, discipline and physical fitness, echoing the words of Heywood Broun: “Sports do not build character, they reveal it.”

The four houses—Cheetahs, Panthers, Leopards and Jaguars—marched into the arena showcasing their unity and readiness. The beats of drums signalled the arrival of the Chief Guest, Kumar Shivashish, IPS, City S.P., an alumnus of LFS, Jamshedpur.

He was welcomed with a Guard of Honour by the Scouts. Vice Principal Jayanthi Sheshadri welcomed the Chief Guest with a sapling, symbolising growth and goodwill, followed by a felicitation by Rev. Fr. Principal and a token of appreciation presented by Rev. Fr. Victor Misquith.

A March Past by all contingents drew applause from the stands, setting a perfect start to the ceremony. The Chief Guest took the salute, after which the lighting of the torch marked the formal commencement of the Sports Meet.

In his address, he inspired the students to aim higher and embrace perseverance. The School President administered the Sports Oath, reinforcing values of fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship. Colourful balloons were released into the sky, symbolising joy, freedom and celebration, officially declaring the meet open.

One of the most captivating moments of the day was the thematic drill display, portraying the story of Mother Earth—her pristine beauty, the impact of human activities, and a concluding message of hope and responsibility. The performance highlighted the urgent need for environmental stewardship and left the audience deeply moved.

The Closing Ceremony welcomed the Guest of Honour, Rev. Dr. Donald D’Silva, S.J., Dean of Finance & Administration at XLRI, Jamshedpur. He too was greeted with a sapling and felicitated by Fr. Principal.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony then recognised outstanding performers for their excellence.

The Cheetah House clinched the Overall Championship Trophy, followed by the Leopard House in second place. Jaguar House was awarded the Best Marching Contingent Trophy, while Panther House earned the title of the Best Disciplined House.

Rev. Dr. D’Silva applauded all participants, emphasising that every student who took part is a winner, as the true spirit of Sports Day lies in participation.
