Assembly polls: Maharashtra to vote in single phase on Nov 20, Jharkhand voting in two phases

New Delhi, Oct 15: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the dates of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

Voting for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly is scheduled for November 20.

In Jharkhand, the assembly elections will occur in two phases: the first phase of voting on November 13 and the second phase on November 20, as announced by the Election Commission of India.

The vote counting and result announcement for both states will be done on November 23.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday.

During a press conference in New Delhi, Rajiv Kumar announced that the Gazette notification for Maharashtra will be issued on October 22. The deadline for filing nominations is October 29, with scrutiny of nominations scheduled for October 30, and the last date for withdrawing candidatures set for November 4.

Kumar announced that the Gazette notifications for Jharkhand for the two phases will be issued on October 18 and October 22, respectively.

The deadlines for submitting nominations in Jharkhand are October 25 for the first phase and October 29 for the second phase, with nomination scrutiny scheduled for October 28 and 30. The final dates for withdrawing candidacies are October 30 for the first phase and November 1 for the second phase.

In Jharkhand, a total of 2.60 crore voters are eligible to participate in the elections, with 1.31 crore male voters and 1.29 crore female voters. Among them, 11.84 lakh are first-time voters, while 66.84 lakh belong to the young voter demographic.
