Mumbai, Nov 19: A day before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, BJP leader and National General Secretary Vinod Tawde has been accused of distributing cash. Reports indicate that the Election Commission has filed an FIR against him under the Representation of the People Act. In addition to Tawde, an FIR has also been registered against BJP candidate Rajan Naik.

However, denying the allegations, Vinod Tawde claimed that this is a conspiracy by the Mahavikas Aghadi against him. He demanded an impartial investigation by the police and the Election Commission, stating that CCTV footage from the hotel would clarify the matter. Tawde said he went to the hotel to meet party workers.

“A meeting of MLAs of Nalasopara was underway. I went there to tell them about the Model Code of Conduct for the day of voting, how will voting machines be sealed and how to go about if an objection has to be made. The workers of the party (Bahujan Vikas Aghadi), Appa Thakur and Kshitij thought that we were distributing money. Let the Election Commission and Police inquire, let them get CCTV footage. I have been in the party for 40 years. Appa Thakur and Kshitij know me, and the entire party knows me. Still, I believe that the Election Commission should conduct an impartial investigation,” Tawde stated refuting the allegations.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Purnima Chowgule Shringi from Zone II of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate confirmed that two FIRs have been filed at Tulinj police station concerning incidents at the hotel where the alleged cash distribution occurred. While refraining from disclosing further details, she assured that a comprehensive investigation is underway.

A video circulating on social media shows BVA workers confronting Tawde outside the hotel where he was staying.
