New Delhi, Nov 2: TMC MP Mahua Moitra, who was called before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee to address allegations of involvement in a cash-for-query scandal, walked out of the meeting along with other opposition panel members on Thursday afternoon.

Members of the opposition questioned the course of inquiry and alleged that the Trinamool Congress MP was asked “personal questions.”

Congressman Uttam Kumar Reddy, Janata Dal (United) MP Giridhari Yadav, and BSP MP Danish Ali were among those who walked out.

“They asked personal questions to the woman (Mahua Moitra). They do not have the right to ask personal questions, so we walked out,” Giridhari Yadav stated.

Regarding the BJP MP who filed the complaint, “having some information” that is meant to be presented to the panel, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that they had not received a response to their questions.

“The whole line of questions it seems that he’s (Parliament Ethics Committee Chairman) acting on somebody’s behest. It is very, very bad. For two days we have been asking him some things. They are asking her (Mahua Moitra) where are you travelling? Where are you meeting? Can you give us your phone records? There is no evidence of any cash transfer,” he stated.

On Thursday morning, Moitra made an appearance before the Ethics Committee regarding the ‘Cash for Query’ allegation that has been brought against her.

On Thursday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Moitra pleaded innocence denied the accusations made against her and informed the parliamentary committee that the accusation stems from advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai’s resentment after she severed her personal ties with him, according to sources.

Several opposition MPs, such as Reddy and Danish Ali of the BSP, supported her at the meeting, but some BJP members, like V D Sharma, wanted her to address the substance of the accusations rather than focusing solely on how a personal relationship went sour.

Sources reported that a significant portion of her statement before the ethics committee focused on her connection with Dehadrai, as she appeared to attribute the leaks and allegations to him.
