The Jharkhand Assembly elections are in full swing, with the first phase of polling on 43 seats completed and the remaining 38 seats set to vote on November 20. Amidst this heated political climate, Sudesh Kumar Mahto, the central president of the All-Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) Party and former Deputy Chief Minister, shared his political vision, election strategies, and views on pressing issues in an exclusive interview with political analyst Swami Divyagyan.
The discussion spanned various aspects, including the strength of the NDA alliance, challenges faced during seat allocation, youth employment, corruption, women’s empowerment, and issues like Bangladeshi infiltration. Sudesh Mahto provided candid and comprehensive responses to every question raised.

Question: With BJP, AJSU, JD(U), and LJP forming the NDA alliance this time, how do you see this coalition compared to the fragmented approach of 2019?
Answer: In 2019, BJP and AJSU contested separately, leading to a split in votes, which directly benefited the opposition. This time, we have learned from our mistakes and formed a strong alliance that prioritizes the development of Jharkhand and the welfare of its people.
Question: Many seats were allocated to smaller alliance partners, leading to dissatisfaction among your party workers. How are you addressing this issue?
Answer: Compromises in seat sharing are inevitable in an alliance. While dissatisfaction among workers is natural, it is necessary for the greater good of achieving victory. Decisions are made keeping the broader interest of the party and the state in mind.
Question: How do you view the Jharkhand government’s ‘Maiyaan Yojana’?
Answer: This scheme is nothing but an attempt to mislead voters. It was hastily introduced before the elections without any proper budgetary provisions. This is yet another example of the ruling government’s failure to deliver on its promises.
Question: NDA has announced the ‘Gogo Didi Yojana,’ promising ₹2100 to women. How will this be implemented?
Answer: Our initiative is backed by solid budgetary planning and aims to empower women economically. This is not just an electoral promise but a concrete step toward strengthening women’s financial independence.
Question: What are your long-term plans for women’s welfare if your government comes to power?
Answer: In addition to financial assistance, we will focus on promoting women entrepreneurs and ensuring their safety through robust policies.
Question: The youth of Jharkhand seem disillusioned with the current government. What does NDA plan to offer them?
Answer: Our priority is to provide employment opportunities to the youth. Upon forming the government, we will immediately begin filling 2.75 lakh vacant positions, including 1.75 lakh teaching posts. We will also attract IT and service hub investments to create local employment opportunities.
Question: How will you ensure transparency in competitive exams?
Answer: We will establish an independent commission to conduct error-free competitive exams, ensuring no room for corruption or malpractice.
Question: What measures will you take to prevent the migration of talent from Jharkhand?
Answer: By developing IT hubs and industrial sectors within the state, we aim to create ample opportunities here. Additionally, we will promote technical and vocational education to make the youth job-ready.
Question: The BJP has raised the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration. What is your stance on this?
Answer: This is not just a state issue but an international one. Strict surveillance and cooperation between the central and state governments are required, especially in border areas adjacent to Bengal.
Question: Infiltration poses a demographic threat in Jharkhand. What steps will you take to address this?
Answer: We will implement stringent security measures in border areas and develop a comprehensive policy to maintain demographic balance.
Question: What is your take on the corruption allegations against Chief Minister Hemant Soren?
Answer: This government has institutionalized corruption. The Chief Minister and his associates are out on bail, and there is ample evidence against them. The people of Jharkhand are well aware of the truth.
Question: How will the NDA ensure a corruption-free administration?
Answer: We will establish a strong Lokayukta and implement a transparent monitoring system for every government scheme to eliminate corruption.
Question: Regional parties are gaining traction in Jharkhand. How do you perceive this development?
Answer: The rise of new parties is a healthy sign for democracy, but the public must evaluate their intentions and policies. If these parties are driven by personal ambitions, they cannot benefit the people of Jharkhand.
Question: Do these regional parties pose a challenge to NDA?
Answer: Our politics is rooted in public service. We do not consider these parties a significant challenge. The people vote based on the performance of their representatives.
