PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 4 : Panic gripped the Kadma area near Bhatia Park late on Saturday evening when a moving car suddenly caught fire, leading to a horrific tragedy.

The flames engulfed the vehicle so rapidly that the driver was unable to escape and was burnt alive inside.

A eye – witness  said, “Flames suddenly erupted from the car, and within moments, it was completely ablaze. We tried to douse the fire with water and sand, but it was too intense to control.”

Local residents immediately alerted the fire department and police. Two fire engines arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the flames, but by then, the car had been reduced to ashes and the man inside had tragically lost his life. The body was charred beyond recognition.

Kadma police station in-charge Rajeev Kumar said that an initial investigation points to a possible short circuit as the cause of the fire. “We are trying to identify the deceased through the car’s registration and chassis number. A forensic team has also been called in,” he added.

A local resident of Kadma, sais that this is the first such incident in the area, and people are shocked. “Children often play around here. Now everyone is scared,”  said the resident.

The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Efforts were underway to identify the victim.
