New Delhi, Sept 30: Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who has made significant contributions to Indian cinema, will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This information was shared by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Mithun will receive this award on October 8, 2024, at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony.
“Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema”, Vaishnaw posted on X.
“To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024”, Vaishnaw added in his post.

Won National Award for his debut film ‘Mrigayaa’
Born on June 16, 1950, Mithun’s real name is Gouranga Chakraborty, but he is affectionately known as Mithun Da.
Mithun Chakraborty’s journey in the film industry, which began with his debut in the 1977 film ‘Mrigayaa’, has been truly inspiring. ‘Disco Dancer’ and ‘Agneepath’ are among his most celebrated hits.
Known for his iconic dance moves, 74-year-old Mithun Chakraborty started his career in parallel cinema with the film ‘Mrigayaa’. He won the National Award for Best Actor for his very first film.
Over the years, he worked in numerous films, but it was the 1982 release ‘Disco Dancer’ that truly made him a star.
Was awarded Padma Bhushan in April
Mithun Chakraborty has acted in more than 350 films, spanning multiple languages beyond Hindi, including Bengali, Odia, Bhojpuri, Telugu, and Punjabi films. A well-educated man, Mithun is also actively involved in social work.
The news of him receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award comes just a few months after he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan. This ceremony took place in April, where the actor accepted the award from President Droupadi Murmu.
