Jharkhand News: ‘YI’ and ‘Jeevan’ empower college students as mental health ambassadors

Jamshedpur, Sept 30: In a significant step towards addressing mental health concerns among youth, Young Indians (YI) Jamshedpur, in collaboration with suicide prevention centre, Jeevan organised a Mental Health Ambassador Training Programme. The initiative aims to equip college students with the skills needed to support their peers as mental health ambassadors, creating a strong support system within campuses.

This training program, held at the Center for Excellence, focused on preparing students to provide emotional support, listen without judgement, and guide peers facing mental health challenges. By promoting early intervention and reducing the stigma around mental health issues, the program seeks to foster a more inclusive and empathetic environment within colleges.

Key skills imparted to the students included recognizing signs of mental distress, active listening, and guiding those in need towards professional mental health resources. An interactive session followed the workshop, allowing participants to raise queries and engage in discussions. The program aims to create a lasting network of mental health ambassadors across colleges, ensuring students always have access to peer support.

Mokshita Gautam, Umang Agarwal, Harsh Agarwal, and Saurabh Agarwal, key members of the YI Health Vertical, played pivotal roles in organizing the event. Mental health expert Gurpreet Kaur Bhatia led the workshop, providing students with valuable insights.

Students from XITE, Gamharia. Netaji Subhash University, and Mrs. KMPM Vocational College, participated in the event held on Saturday. This initiative marks a vital step toward improving the overall well-being and academic success of students.
