Giridih, Aug 25: A demand for ₹20 lakh in extortion and alleged life threats to prominent industrialist and Mongia Steel chairman Dr. Gunwant Singh Mongia has triggered concern in the Giridih police administration.

In connection with the case, Dr. Mongia lodged an FIR against Giridih Steel Private Limited director Mumtaj Alam alias Mister and five to six unidentified associates at Giridih Sadar police station. Sadar police station inspector Binod Kumar confirmed that the FIR was registered under BNS Sections 207, 115(2), 126, 388, 324, 329, and 390.

Dispute over recently purchased property
According to the written complaint, on August 12, 2025, Dr. Mongia purchased a house from Nazma Khatoon, wife of Md. Nizam, in Bhandardih under the Bhandardih police station limits.

He alleged that on August 19, 2025, Mumtaj Alam broke the lock of the newly purchased property, occupied it, and began removing goods worth nearly ₹30,000. On learning of the incident, Dr. Mongia rushed to the spot and confronted Alam for forcibly taking possession of the house.
Threats, assault, and extortion demand
When Dr. Mongia attempted to show the land purchase documents, Alam allegedly summoned five to six armed associates. The group reportedly attacked him, after which Alam demanded an extortion sum of ₹20 lakh for allowing him to retain the property.

The complaint further states that Alam placed a knife on Dr. Mongia’s neck, snatched ₹10,000 in cash from his pocket, and threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the demanded amount. Alam allegedly warned that possession of the land would only be possible after payment of the extortion money.
Inspector Binod Kumar said the matter is being thoroughly investigated and assured that appropriate action will be taken once the inquiry is completed.
