Jamshedpur, July 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an active spell of monsoon across Jharkhand over the next five days, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and spells of heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the state.
According to the latest weather bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph are likely at isolated places across Jharkhand on Sunday. The IMD has also issued a heavy rainfall alert for parts of the state, advising residents to remain cautious.
Heavy rain likely in several districts on July 14
The IMD has forecast that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph will continue across the state on July 14.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over the north-eastern districts, including Hazaribagh and Koderma, as well as the south-eastern districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan.
From July 15 to July 17, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected to persist at isolated places across Jharkhand. However, no widespread heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the latter part of the week.

Weather systems driving the active monsoon
Meteorologists attributed the prevailing weather conditions to a well-marked monsoon trough extending from Sri Ganganagar through Hissar, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur and Balurghat, before stretching east-southeastwards towards Manipur.
In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Bangladesh, along with a trough extending from northwest Bihar to Manipur, is enhancing moisture inflow and supporting widespread convective activity over eastern India, including Jharkhand.
The weather department has advised people to remain alert during thunderstorms and lightning. Residents have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees, stay away from open fields during lightning strikes, and follow official weather advisories, especially in districts likely to receive heavy rainfall.
