Bhubaneswar, April 19: Naveen Patnaik has once again been chosen president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), marking his ninth consecutive term as the head of the regional party he founded.
His unopposed selection was officially announced on Saturday during the party’s state council meeting held at Sankha Bhawan, the BJD’s headquarters.
Returning officer for the organisational polls, PK Deb, declared former Odisha Chief Minister Patnaik as the BJD president, who was the sole nominee for the top post.

Following his election, Patnaik, in his first address to party leaders, emphasized the dedication of BJD workers and the party’s robust organisational base. He said, “No one should underestimate the organisational strength of the BJD. The spirit of the BJD workers remains very high. They are our real assets.”
Patnaik also referred to the years 2000 to 2024 as a “golden era” in Odisha’s development.
Following the announcement, enthusiastic district leaders showered Patnaik with greetings, offering him flowers, traditional paintings, Lord Jagannath’s ‘Anga Bastra,’ and ‘Maha Prasad’ as a gesture of reverence and celebration.

Deb further noted that the state council consists of 355 members, of whom 80 have been inducted into the party’s executive committee.
