Women who had suffered during the riots shared their experiences with the delegation, demanding a National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry into the clashes and the establishment of permanent Border Security Force (BSF) camps in vulnerable areas to prevent future violence.

The NCW team’s visit followed serious communal disturbances in Muslim-majority regions like Shamsherganj, Suti, Dhulian, and Jangipur on April 11 and 12, which left three people dead and forced hundreds to flee their homes.
The Commission had earlier taken suo motu cognisance of the violence, reportedly triggered by protests against amendments to the central Waqf Act.
