Dhanbad, June 3: Concerned over the rising number of divorce cases across Jharkhand, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has announced plans to establish Pre-Marriage Counselling Centres in every district of the state. NCW member Mamta Kumari said that the increasing rate of divorces is weakening the foundation of society and is a matter of serious concern.

“To address this issue, the NCW will set up centres where couples will be educated about the true meaning and responsibilities of marriage,” Kumari stated. She was speaking during a meeting with administrative and police officials at the Dhanbad Collectorate on Tuesday.

Focus on Domestic Violence and Women’s Rights

Mamta Kumari also expressed concern over the rise in domestic violence and dowry-related atrocities. She stressed that every woman has the right to live with dignity and called for regular awareness campaigns to protect and promote women’s rights.

The NCW member further highlighted the challenges posed by cybercrime and urged district administrations and police officials to counter it through both legal action and public awareness initiatives.

Police Assures Support to NCW Initiatives

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar assured that the police administration would fully comply with the NCW’s directives. He added that all cases related to crimes against women would be reviewed, and efforts would be made to curb harassment and violence.

Earlier in the day, Mamta Kumari held a public hearing during which she resolved 35 women-related cases on the spot.
