THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Ranchi, Feb 10: If you live in Ranchi, here’s some good news for you. Following the instructions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Ranchi Smart City Corporation has taken several steps to enhance residents’ safety. While the Command, Control, and Communication Centre is already managing citywide automatic traffic control, it is now also assisting in crime prevention and detection.

In case of an emergency—such as witnessing or experiencing an accident—you can now directly connect with government agencies. To facilitate this, yellow emergency call boxes have been installed at 50 key intersections across Ranchi. Simply pressing the red button on the box will establish a direct voice connection with the Command Control Center, where you can report the issue. The Smart City team and the police will then alert the relevant agencies to provide immediate assistance. No mobile phone or emergency number is required—just locate a nearby yellow call box.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, these emergency call boxes have been strategically placed at locations including Main Road Overbridge, Kanke Ring Road, Sahajanand Chowk, Shani Mandir Chowk, Harmu Chowk, Argora Chowk, Satellite Chowk, Kanke Road, Birsa Chowk, Mecon Chowk, Sujata Chowk, and Kokar Chowk. Some boxes have been temporarily removed due to ongoing flyover construction and road expansion projects, but they will be reinstalled soon.

What Kind of Assistance is Available?

These emergency call boxes can be used in various situations, such as:

  • Road accidents
  • Chain snatching
  • Firing incidents
  • Assault or molestation
  • Other criminal activities

Both victims and eyewitnesses can use the call box to report an incident. Additionally, if there is a fire, the call box can be used to alert the fire brigade.

Ambulance and Urban Services

If an accident occurs, the call box can be used to request an ambulance. Anyone present at the scene can report the incident to the Command Centre. The system can also be used to report fallen electric poles, broken wires, or even dead animals on the road so that the authorities can take action.

Currently, 50 emergency call boxes have been installed across the city. However, some have been temporarily removed due to construction work and

This initiative aims to enhance public safety and ensure quick emergency response in Ranchi.
