New Year celebrations: Magistrates, policemen deployed at Maithon, Topchachi lakes in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Dec. 29: In the wake of the New Year celebration, the Dhanbad administration has deployed a magistrate with a heavy police force at all important picnic spots of the district from December 29 to January 2 with a particular focus on picturesque Mathon DVC Dam and famous Topchachi Lake.

ADM (Law and Order) Kamlakant Gupta said that on the directive of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Barun Ranjan, magistrates have been deployed for five days at Gogna Chhat Ghat, Sports Hostel, Kalipahadi Chowk, Boat Ghat and Millennium Park of Maithon Dam, at Topchachi Lake, Lichi Bagan, Aam Bagicha, Bhatinda Fall, Matigarh Dam, and Chitahidham Ramraj Mandir.

Picturesque Maithon Dam, based at the Jharkhand – Bengal Border, and Topchachi Lake in Dhanbad are the attraction centres for New Year revellers. On the occasion, over one lakh people, mostly from Bengal, Odisha and nearby districts of Bihar, arrive here with families and in groups to celebrate the New Year.

Ban on boating after sunset

The deputy commissioner who inspected the picnic spots of Maithon Dam on December 28 ordered a complete ban on boating after Sunset in the dam and made life jackets mandatory for boat riders.

Boating in Maithon Dam is the centre of attraction for New Year revellers. Due to the heavy rush of far-away visitors, boating continues even after Sunset. After assessing the arrangement at Maithon Dam, DC Barun Ranjan directed the concerned officials to ensure a complete ban on night boating.

Police and CISF personnel have also been deployed in large numbers to ensure visitors are not uncomfortable in their celebration.

Topchachi Lake, near inter-state GT Road under Topchachi block, around 46 km away from the district headquarters, is also a favourite destination of New Year revellers, especially for People of Bengal who rush with family and troupes in large numbers. The Lake is surrounded by high hills series from three sides. It is the second prominent picnic spot after Maithon Dam of DVC.
