THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Patna, March 30: In a major political development in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned from his position as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Jha submitted his resignation letter to the Bihar Legislative Council secretariat on his behalf.

The move has been confirmed by Cabinet Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and is being seen as the beginning of a larger political transition in the state. According to party sources, Nitish Kumar is also expected to step down as Chief Minister in the coming days. The development has triggered intense speculation about the future leadership of the JD(U)-led government.

Nitish Kumar’s Move to Rajya Sabha

Just four months after taking oath for a record tenth term as Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha earlier this month. His move sparked significant political activity in Patna and raised questions about his successor.

He was accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and other National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders during the nomination process.

On March 16, Kumar secured his seat in the Rajya Sabha after receiving the support of 44 MLAs during voting in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Following his election to the Upper House, speculation intensified that he would soon resign from both the state legislature and the Chief Minister’s post.

Nishant Kumar Enters Politics

Adding to the political developments, Nitish Kumar’s 50-year-old son, Nishant Kumar, has formally entered politics after staying away from public life for years.

On March 8, Nishant joined the Janata Dal (United) at the party’s national headquarters in Patna. He was welcomed by JD(U) National President Sanjay Jha in the presence of senior leaders, including Union Minister Lalan Singh and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.

Speaking after joining the party, Nishant said he would work as an active member and expressed respect for his father’s decision to contest the Rajya Sabha elections.

Buzz Over Deputy Chief Minister Post

Speculation is growing within Bihar’s political circles that Nishant Kumar could be considered for the post of Deputy Chief Minister. With Nitish Kumar moving to the Rajya Sabha, discussions around a possible leadership change within the JD(U) have intensified.

Senior party leader Hari Narayan Singh stated that a meeting of the party’s top leadership was recently held to discuss Nishant’s potential elevation. The meeting, led by Nitish Kumar, reportedly saw several senior leaders expressing support for the idea.
