New Delhi, June 13: The Supreme Court heard petitions today regarding NEET UG exam results, grace marks, re-examination, and cancellation of exams.

NTA cancels scorecard of 1563 students who were awarded grace marks

NTA (National Testing Agency) told a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta that it has cancelled the scorecards of 1563 students who were awarded grace marks. These students will have to take the exam again, scheduled for June 23.

Those students who do not wish to reappear for the exam will retain their original scores without grace marks. Furthermore, the results of this exam will be announced on June 30.

“The Committee has decided to cancel the score-cards of 1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who were given grace marks and these students will be given the option to take a re-test,” NTA said adding that “Exam will be conducted on June 23 and result will be declared before June 30.”

Counselling to continue from July 6: SC

Additionally, the court declined to impose a stay on NEET UG counselling, allowing counselling for successful candidates from July 6 onwards.

“Counselling will go on and we will not stop it. If the exam goes then everything goes in totality so nothing to fear,” the Supreme Court stated.

SC to hear other issues on July 8

Petitioner’s lawyer Shwetank Sailwal said that a PIL was filed regarding the NEET exam. Many issues were raised on behalf of lakhs of students. The main issue was paper leaks and other irregularities. Today, NTA has admitted its mistake. The court has directed that a re-examination will be conducted on June 23. Other issues will be heard on July 8. A decision may be taken on those matters on the same day as the hearing.

Petitioner says NTA has accepted the mistake

Alakh Pandey, the petitioner and CEO of Physics Wallah, explained that the NTA admitted to the Supreme Court that awarding grace marks to students was a mistake, which led to dissatisfaction. The NTA agreed to remove these grace marks and decided to conduct a re-examination for the 1,563 affected students on June 23. Alternatively, students can accept their original scores without the grace marks.

Pandey expressed concerns about potential other discrepancies within the NTA, leading to a trust issue. He added that the matter of the paper leak remains unresolved, and hearings on this issue will continue.
