New Delhi, September 18: The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for “One Nation, One Election.”
Notably, a committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind submitted its report on the feasibility of One Nation, One Election to the Modi government in March.
According to this report, as a first step, Lok Sabha and state assembly elections should be held simultaneously. The committee also recommended that local body elections should be conducted within 100 days of the completion of Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.

This approach would allow for all levels of elections to be completed within a defined timeframe across the country. Currently, state assembly and Lok Sabha elections are held separately.
Sources indicate that the bill for conducting simultaneous elections is expected to be introduced in the forthcoming winter session of Parliament.
