Jamshedpur, Jan 31: Continuing its crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Jamshedpur district police achieved another success under the ongoing anti-narcotics drive Operation Prahar.
Acting on a tip-off, Olidih police conducted a raid at Gandhi Maidan in Mango and arrested a drug peddler red-handed with 22 pouches of brown sugar.
Sharing details of the operation, Patamda DSP Vachandev Kujur said the police had received specific intelligence about the sale and purchase of narcotics at Gandhi Maidan. Based on the input, a special team was immediately constituted, and a strategic raid was carried out at the spot.

On noticing the police presence, a group of youths attempted to flee. While some managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the police chased and apprehended one suspect.

Accused Identified
The arrested accused has been identified as Jitendra Kumar alias Jeetu, a resident of Jawaharnagar Road No. 4 in Mango. During a personal search, the police recovered 22 pouches of brown sugar along with a mobile phone from his possession.
The DSP said raids are underway to nab the absconding associates who managed to flee during the operation. He added that Operation Prahar is being carried out on the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police to make the district drug-free.
Anti-Drug Drive Intensified
Over the past two months, more than 45 drug traffickers have been arrested as part of this sustained campaign. The intensified action has created panic among drug peddlers operating in the area.
Police are now interrogating the arrested accused to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of the drug network active in the city.
