Opposition protests inhumane treatment of Indians during deportation
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, commenting on the deportation of allegedly undocumented Indian immigrants from the United States, questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi allowed such an incident to happen despite claims of a strong friendship between him and U.S. President Donald Trump.
She remarked that if India could have sent a plane to bring them back, why was such action not taken? She also criticized the treatment of the deported individuals, questioning whether it was humane to send them back in handcuffs and shackles. She asserted that the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister must provide an answer.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, speaking on the issue criticized the government for its silence despite claims that India had become a global leader. He stated that the U.S. was sending Indians back in shackles, treating them like slaves, and questioned what the Ministry of External Affairs was doing about the situation.
He further alleged that the government failed to protect even women and children and demanded an explanation as to why these individuals had to leave India in the first place.
