THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, January 29: The Palamu Police have launched a unique photo poster awareness campaign to protect women and the general public from fraudsters posing as so-called “oracle men” who cheat victims in the name of polishing, burnishing and brightening gold ornaments.

How Fake Oracle Men Trap Victims

According to police, these impostors prey on fear and superstition. They approach women and claim that misfortune is imminent, often warning that their children—particularly sons—are facing serious danger. By muttering incomprehensible chants and projecting themselves as divine or spiritual saviours, they gain the trust of unsuspecting victims.

Once the women are psychologically manipulated, the fraudsters issue strange commands, such as asking them to close their eyes and walk backwards for several steps. During this moment, the fake oracle men flee with gold ornaments and hard-earned cash, leaving the victims distraught.

Police sources confirmed that nearly half a dozen such cheating cases have been reported in Palamu district in recent times, prompting authorities to intensify public awareness.

Photo Poster Sends Clear Message

The newly released photo poster features images of three men and three women and delivers a simple but powerful message:

  • Do not trust strangers
  • Do not close your eyes on anyone’s command
  • Never hand over gold ornaments or cash

Police warn that obeying such instructions can result in severe financial loss.

The poster also alerts citizens that these fraudsters may impersonate police personnel or officials from CID and ACB to create panic and fear among their targets.

Police Advisory: Stay Alert, Dial 112

Palamu Police have urged people to immediately inform the nearest police station if they encounter such suspects or if they narrowly escape being duped. In emergencies, citizens are advised to dial 112, assuring swift police assistance.

Residents who spoke to The Jharkhand Story Network described the poster campaign as timely and effective, especially at a time when many women seek to restore the shine of old gold ornaments.

Gold kept unused for years naturally loses its lustre, and fraudsters exploit this desire by offering polishing services before disappearing with valuables.

“Reeshma Ramesan is a woman. She understands what it means for a woman to lose her precious savings,” said several women in Daltonganj, expressing trust in the police’s proactive approach.

Palamu Police have reiterated their appeal to the public to remain vigilant and not fall prey to fake godmen or oracle frauds.
