Daltonganj, June 27: A quick response team of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Saturday rescued a four-foot-long Russell’s viper, one of India’s most venomous snakes, from a house in Bareysarn and safely released it into a nearby forest.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Bareysarn range team led by Forester-in-Charge Saket Pandey, along with team members Aman and Priyesh.
Snake found beneath bed where girl was sleeping
The Russell’s viper was found beneath a wooden chowki (cot) inside the house of Shankar Prasad, where his young daughter had been sleeping.
The snake was spotted early on Saturday morning after its hissing alerted the girl. Her family immediately informed the forest department, following which the PTR rescue team reached the spot and safely captured the reptile.
The rescued snake was later released into the nearby Duarseni forest.
PTR urges people not to panic on spotting snakes
Forester-in-Charge Saket Pandey appealed to residents to remain cautious during the ongoing season, when sightings of reptiles tend to increase, and advised them not to panic if they encounter a snake inside or outside their homes.
He assured residents that the Palamu Tiger Reserve rescue team would respond promptly if informed in time.
“Whenever a snake is spotted, a crowd quickly gathers, with people of all ages offering their opinions about the reptile. Such situations often make a safe and precise rescue operation more difficult,” Pandey said.
